Committee
The Academic Council is a vital organ of the D Y Patil Deemed to be University. It provides an interface between the student community, the faculty, and the institute’s management in order to address the issues that the students face. The Council’s main objective is to ensure a healthy academic atmosphere and enhance the learning experience for the students. It monitors the students’ academic experience and makes recommendations. It constantly looks at the latest changes that are coming up in the field of management and provides recommendations to the Program Office on reflecting these changes in the curriculum to make students academically ready to meet industry demands.
The Council plays an important role in guiding the students in selecting their electives. It organizes course and domain-related workshops to help students make optimal decisions in their elective selections. The Academic Council also arranges sessions to help students cope with their studies and overcome any problems they might be facing.
In sum, the Academic Council helps the students to realize their educational aspirations and achieve excellence in their academics.

Vision
- D Y Patil Deemed to be University aspires to be a premier, globally recognized institution of higher learning. The University is committed to the promotion of education, research and extension work, combining academic excellence with access, equity and social justice.
Mission
- The Mission of D Y Patil Deemed to be University is to be a global, socially conscious Center of Excellence in the conservation, creation, Advancement and dissemination of knowledge, equipped to take up challenges of the enormous change taking place all around and committed to empower its faculty and students to contribute meaningfully to economic, technological and social development and progress.
Goals & Objectives
- The Academic Council is the highest academic body of the University and it aims at the maintenance of standards of instruction, education and examination within the University. It has the right to advise the various Academic Schools on all academic matters. The Academic Council’s main objective is to lay down, regulate, and maintain the standards of teaching, research, extension and examinations in the University. The Academic Council shall be responsible for lying down the academic policies in regard to maintenance and improvement of standards of teaching, research, extension collaboration programmes in academic matters and evaluation of work-load of the teachers.
Duties & Responsibility of
Committee Members
The Academic Council shall have the following Duties:-
- To consider matters of academic interest either on its own initiative or at the instance of the Board of Management or these proposed by the departments / faculties and to take proper action thereon.
- To exercise general supervision over the academic work of the institution deemed to be university and to give direction regarding methods of instruction, evaluation, and improvements in academic standards.
- To promote research within the institution deemed to be university, acquire reports on such researches from time to time.
- To prescribe courses of study leading to degrees and diplomas of the institution deemed to be university.
- To make arrangements for the conduct of examinations in conformity with the Bye-Laws.
- To appoint examiners, moderators, tabulators and such other personnel for different examinations.
- To maintain proper standards of the examinations.
- To recognize diplomas and degrees of universities and other Institutions and to determine equivalence with the diplomas and degrees of the institutions deemed to be university.
- To suggest measures for departmental co-ordination.
- To make recommendations to the Board of Management .
- Measures for improvement of standards of teaching research and training.
- Institution of fellowships, travel fellowships, scholarships, medals, prizes etc.
- To recommend to the Board of Management, the establishment or abolition of departments/ centres.
- To frame rules covering the academic functioning of the institution deemed to be university, admissions, examinations, award of fellowships and studentships, free-ships, concessions, attendance, discipline, residence etc.
- To appoint sub-committees to advise on such specific matters as may be referred to it by the Board of Management.
- To consider the recommendations of the sub-committees and to take such action as the circumstances of each case may require.
- To take periodical review of the activities of the Departments / Centres and to take appropriate action with a view to maintaining and improving standards of instruction.
- To recommend institution of teaching posts (Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors) to the Board of Management.
- To exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed upon it by the Rules.
The principal responsibility of the academic council in a University are :-
- Maintainence of quality and standards of academic programs.
- Planning, co-ordination, development, oversight and review of academic programs of the University.
The secondary responsibility of the academic council of the University are :-
- Laying down the essential qualification for recruitment of faculty in various disciplines.
- Framing and revising/updating the contents of the course of various academic programs.
- Approval of fee structure of various academic programs.

Limitations
Tenure:-
- The term of member other than ex-officio members shall be two years. They shall not be eligible to continue further unless everyone has completed one term.
Powers of the Academic Council:-
The Academic Council shall have the following powers :

Limitations :-
- The Academic Council shall not infringe upon the powers of the respective authorities provided under these Regulations; and where any authority has been given advisory/recommendatory powers, the Academic Council shall obtain advice/recommendations from such authority, before deciding on any matter before it.
Termination of the
Member
If a member other than the Vice-Chancellor, and those representing the teachers, accepts a full time appointment in the Institution deemed to be University or does not attend three consecutive meetings of the Academic Council, without proper leave of absence, he/she shall cease to be a member of the Academic Council.
Delegation of
Powers
The Academic Council may, by a resolution, delegate to the Vice Chancellor or any other officer of the institution deemed to be university of the Standing Committee such of its powers as it may deem fit subject to the condition that the action taken by the Vice Chancellor or the officer concerned or the Standing Committee concerned in the exercise of the powers so delegated shall be reported at the next meeting of the Academic Council.
