The DY Patil Sports Stadium in Nerul has been chosen as one of the three venues for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022. The other two cities are Ahmedabad and Bhubaneswar. The list was finalized on Friday, 26 March, 2021.

India will be hosting the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022, from 20 January – 6 February, 2022. The qualifiers will be held between 13 and 25 September, 2021, in centralized venues with the draw scheduled to be held on 27 May, 2021, at the AFC headquarters.

This will be the second time that India will be hosting the tournament ever since its inception in the year 1975. India had hosted the tournament once in the year 1979.

The current champions of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup are the Japanese women’s national football team, with the Chinese women’s national football team having won the tournament eight times, seven of which have been consecutive victories.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has expressed their utmost satisfaction over the venues chosen by the All India Football Federation and the LOC, and are confident that the stadiums selected for the tournament will only add to the magnificence of the games that will be played in them.

The stadiums chosen for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 are, the DY Patil Sports Stadium (Nerul, Navi Mumbai), EKA Arena by Trans Stadia (Ahmedabad) and the Kalinga Stadium (Bhubaneswar).

The AFC is confident that tournament will further the cause of women footballers in India and inspire many to pursue their passion for the game, which is already making steady and progressive strides.

The DY Patil Sports Stadium had already been in the picture globally for their spectacular presentation and handling of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, putting Navi Mumbai on the map for its ability to host and manage games of international repute.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that the DY Patil Sports Stadium will once again be hosting the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in 2022.
