Medical Fellowship Program Launch
Education is a dynamic space and it’s essential for healthcare professionals to stay abreast with the latest developments. D.Y. Patil University took a step in this direction on 23d January, proudly launching its “Medical Fellowship Program in the fields of Medicine, Radiology and Surgery
The event kicked off with a heart warming speech from Vijay sir underlying his deep-seated gratitude for the noble professions of a soldier and a doctor.
An esteemed panel of eighteen mentors was present on stage accompanied by Dr Vijay Patil , Mrs Shivani Patil and Dr. Shirish Patil. Each mentor shared a unique perspective on their field enlightening the perpetually engaged audience. They were honored by a memento awarded to them by Dr Vijay Patil , Mrs Shivani Patil, Dr. Shirish Patil and Dr Priyadarshini Patil Cholera– as an expression of welcome. Post this; students were awarded with their certificates for completion of the fellowship program for previous year.
Followed by a formal poolside dinner where doctors and students alike, mingled over the numerous delicacies.
The event was an initiative by the D. Y. Patil University to nurture the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Dr. Farokh. E. Udwadia
Well known pioneer of critical care in India. He shared his views on the importance of the human interaction in the field of medicine.
Dr. Bhupendra Avasthi
The Founder and Chief of Surya group of hospitals. He is extremely passionate about developing dedicated super specialty pediatric hospitals in our country.
Dr. Vijay Panikar
Chairman of Research for study of Diabetes in India-Maharashtra chapter(RSSDI). He spoke about the art of treating a patient and his desire to ensure that his patients are not ‘suffering’ with diabetes and instead are ‘living’ with diabetes.
Dr. Vijay Gangadhar Negalur
Popularly known as “The Gentle Giant of Diabetes”.He is a member of the European Association for the study of Diabetes (EASD), American Diabetic Association (ADA) as well as the Association of Physicians of India (API).
Dr. Nimish Nanavati
He has been the past Vice President of Indian Rheumatology Association. He strongly believed that rheumatologists are the need of the hour in the vast population of India.
Dr. Srilata. S. Trasi
She is a member of prestigious international organizations like American Academy of Dermatology and European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology. She underlined the seriousness of cosmetology as a profession.
Dr Samuel L Mathew
He is known as the Father of angioplasty in India. He is the first Indian Cardiologist to initiate various new techniques in angioplasty such as the usage of drug-eluting bio-absorbable stents.
Dr. Nandita Palshetkar
As the director of 12 bloom IVF centresacross the country, Dr Nandita Palshetkar is a well-known entity in the field of reproductive medicine.She has been the immediate past president of the Mumbai Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society.
Dr. Hrishikesh Pai
Dr. Pai is one of the leading pioneers in the field of infertility treatment. He has been the first doctor in India to introduce innovations in medical fields such as assisted laser hatching, spindle view, ovarian tissue freezing, oocyte freezing and IMSI and embryoscope.
Dr. Ashutosh. G. Pusalkar
Dr. A. G. Pusalkar has been a pioneer in Otolaryngology in India since three decades. He is a renowned Otology especially in the field of middle ear and stapes surgery.He is credited with developing the first ever middle ear titanium implant in the world which was used in a patient. He has developed Ossicular Reconstruction Prostheses in collaboration with a German company. Today the most popular material used for middle ear reconstruction is titanium.
Dr Keiki. R. Mehta
Prof. Dr. Keiki R. Mehta is India’s leading Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. He is the first to commence intraocular implant in India, first to commence Lasik in India, first to commence Phacoemulsification cataract surgery which has helped lakhs of people all over India for which he is now known as the “Father of Indian Phacoemulsification”.
Dr. Pradeep Rao
He is the mentor of Fellowship in EndoUrology, Laparoscopy & Robotics which is essentially a subspecialty in neurology.
Dr. Omprakash. J. Tavri
He has been an Editor-in-chief of the Indian Journal of Radiology as well as editor for numerous other journals. Currently, he is on the editorial board of Asia Oceanic Journal of Radiology and Springers’ Journals. Dr Omprakash Tavri is an inspiration and a driving force for many a young radiology graduates today.
Dr Deepak. P. Patkar
Dr Deepak Patkar is currently the Director of Medical Services and Head department of MR imaging at one of the leading private hospitals in Mumbai.
Dr. Nitin Chaubal
Dr Nitin Chaubal is a renowned and celebrated figure in the field of Ultrasound imaging in the country. He is presently on the editorial board of Indian Journal of Radiological Imaging, a Joint editor of Indian Journal of Ultrasoundas well as on the Editorial board of Korean Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology to name a few.
Dr. Uday Limaye
Dr Uday Limaye has been a frontrunner in forming and strengthening the base of Interventional Neuroradiology in India. In his own words, “Making the Interventional Neuroradiology specialty available as an integral part of neurosciences in all prominent health institutes and hospitals in western India will go a long way towards Increasing the awareness of physicians and the general public about the scope and development of Interventional Neuroradiology”
Dr. Gireesh Warawdekar
He is one of the most renowned Interventional and Vascular radiologist. He has been the first to perform Fallopian Tube Recanalization procedure in Mumbai, first to perform Carotid stenting in the city as well as Trans-jugular liver biopsies and first to perform stent graft for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms & was also the expert first to perform intra-cranial stenting in India in 2002.
