The School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, D Y Patil Deemed to be University celebrated International Women’s Day on the 8th March 2018. The programme was organized by the students of the literary club, “Transcriptors” in coordination with the members of the Women Empowerment Committee members.
This day was chosen to commemorate the 150th Birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita. Respected Swamiji of Ramkrishna Mission, Khar kindly consented to be the chief guest for the occasion. Students and faculty of the school attended the event.
The Director of the school, Prof. Debjani Dasgupta welcomed Swamiji, the chief guest and other accompanying members of Ramkrishna Mission and felicitated Swamiji. She shared with the audience, specific aspects of Sister Nivedita’s work and highlighted the relevance of her work in today’s world.
Ms Sachi compered the entire program. The program included a prayer song by students: vocalist Pranjal and violinist Srihari; a short skit on Sister Nivedita’s work by the drama club “Jaivarangayatan”; an elocution competition organized by Ms Anshul and an audio-visual presentation on the life of Sister Nivedita.
A quiz was conducted by the members of Ramkrishna Mission following the audiovisual round.
Following the quiz, Swamiji addressed the audience with his words of wisdom. Swamiji wished all women a Happy Women’s day. He talked about the importance of women in the society and what freedom for women means giving suitable contemporary examples. He scientifically explained the harmony that exists between men and women and how it maintains the balance in the society. He also correlated the work of Sister Nivedita and its relevance in the present day.
