Beginning our college festival with a social cause, Day 1 of Fahrenheit was dedicated to ‘Oral Cancer Awareness’. Oral cancer is one of the most life threatening cancers in India due to the high rate consumption of tobacco chewing and smoking in the country.Statically one person dies every hour due to some form of oral cancer. Many others who survive suffer long-term problems such as severe facial disfigurement or difficulties eating and speaking. The death rate associated with oral cancers remains particularly high due to the cancer being discovered late in its development.Hence to curb this lethal disease we at D.Y.PatilUniversity School of Dentistry join hands to spread awareness about oral cancer.
As dentists we are able to diagnose oral cancer at a very early stage. Early diagnosis will lead to better prognosis. The Oral Cancer Awareness initiative encourages dental and medical professionals to conduct free oral cancer screenings
Keeping our awareness of the day ‘Oral Cancer Day’ in mind everyone at the dental college showed their support by adorning white attires with while ribbons. Presentations, charts and models were put up to educate the patients. The event was a grand success with quite a lot of patients showing interest to learn more about the disease and its prevention.
