On the 24th of September, 2018, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, D. Y. Patil University School of Dentistry, organized an Oral Screening and Awareness Camp to propagate the importance of cultivating healthy oral habits at an early age.
The camp was held at Podar Jumbo Kids, a preschool in Sector 5, Vashi, Navi Mumbai and a total of 56 children aged 3 to 5 were efficiently screened for oral health conditions and dental caries in various stages of progression. The kids were enthusiastic and inquisitive about the dental checkup and in conjunction to the screening, the little ones were given a demonstration of oral hygiene Do’s and Don’ts and the importance of brushing twice daily were explained to them in penny plain terms.
This initiative was made a success by Dr. Sheiba Gomes (In-charge, Department of Public Health Dentistry), Dr. Sneha Khanapure (Lecturer, Department of Public Health Dentistry) and a team of 5 interns (Akbar Jiwani, Kanisha Shetty, Farnaz Khader, Sofia Khan, Surbhi Joshi).
Kudos to the Department of Public Health Dentistry for setting the ball rolling as they educate these young and impressionable minds towards better oral hygiene, as habits cultivated during childhood last a lifetime.
