On 5th october 2015, The “smile torch”, an IOS inittiative commemorating 50 glourious years of the orthodontic society was bought to Dr D. Y. Patil school of dentistry , which itself is in the celebrationof its 25 years.
There couldn’t have been a better day than 5th october since the day is even celebrated worldwide as World Orthodontics Day.The torch was collected by the convenors of the Navi Mumbai Orthodontic Study Group on 4th october from Dr Trisha Ghosh , a representative of the Kolkata Study Group who flew across the coast to hand over the responsibility of spreading awarness about orthodontics by the Department of Orthodontics of Dr D.Y. Patil school of denistry. The event on
5thoctober began with a smile-a-thon , a smile march around the college premises to draw attention to our initiative. This was followed by a street play demonstrating how orthodontic correction of your smile can boost your confidence and self esteem.
VIVA La ORTHO..a carnival celebrating orthodontics was held at the dental college where in a drawing competition , wire bending , last man standing , photobooth , nail art were held in which the participants themselves were orthodontic patients treated in our department showcasing how corecting their crooked teeth (malocclusion) the right way has made them more confident. Several orthodontic check up camps in neighbouring schools and colleges were held by the department of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics to create awarness.
The function was concluded by a prize distribution for the prize winners of various competitions.
The day was totally dedicated to ORTHODONTICS and a number of educative materials were used to make people aware of the benefits of orthodontic treatment, at the right age.
Orthodontics with its recent advances extends its treatment to all age groups including preventive, interceptive, corrective and surgical modalities.
It has changed the lives of many and will continue to do so…
