D.Y. Patil has been a name to reckon with in the education industry since the establishment of the D.Y. Patil Group in 1984. Since then we have been shouldering the responsibility of recognizing the latent talent in youngsters, nurturing it and sculpting it to perfection, so that they go out in the world as leaders ready to carve a niche for themselves in this competitive world.

With a boom in the Hospitality and Tourism industry on the global front, the Hospitality Department was opened in the year 1992. Hospitality industry is one of the largest industries in the world. Unlimited opportunities do exist which give employment to millions of people the world over. The School has four well equipped Kitchens, a Bakery, Confectionary, Training Restaurants, Dining Room, Front Office, Housekeeping, Library, Cafeteria and Training Hotel. The idea behind the whole academic exercise is not to make students exam oriented but business inclined. The ability to ask questions and challenge the established norms can only come through such an Endeavour.

The Annual Bar Tending Competition is an event anchored by the School of Hospitality & Tourism Studies in an effort to offer a stage of performance to bring out the skill present in students across Hospitality Institutes in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. It was held on 23rd Sept 2016 in D Y Patil Auditorium. The event also highlighted the field of Mixology. Mixology is the science of Mixing Alcoholic Drinks, like Rum, Gin, Vodka, Whisky, Tequila, Beer, (all of these being Liquors)  with Cherry Heering, Cointreau, Curacao, Licor 43, Grand Marnier, Limoncello, Maraschino Midori (these being a few famous Liqueurs – Extracts of fruits)  supported by taste producing agents such as Sugar Syrup, Lime Juice, Spices such as Cinnamon, Red Chillies, Black Pepper, Salt, Cardamom, etc in an effort to produce a unique drink.
The students of various other hospitality colleges participated in the event to display their skill and innovation like :

1. St’ Francis, Bandra.
2. Apeejay Institute of Hospitality, Belapur.
3. Kohinoor Institute of Hotel Management, Vile Parle.
4. Don Bosco, Matunga.
5. Sofia’s, Bandra.
6. Sheila Raheja Institute of Hotel Management.

It was a fabulous attempt by the students to prepare innovative cocktails which was judged by the Experts from the Industry.

The judges were Mr. Ankit Gupta, who has his own of chain Burmese restaurant, Mr. Mandonca,  has started his own food truck called Burrp Machine, Mr.Thapar, Alumni of D Y Patil, School of Hospitaltiy & Tourism and has started his Cocktails & Dreams, Bartending Academy   and   Mr. Pravesh Bhosale, Food & Beverage Manager of Byke Hospitality, Group of hotels were present to witness as well as judge the competition.

The winners were :

  1. Godwin Pereira of Don Bosco won 1st Prize

  2. Bhawan Singh of Shaila Raheja bagged 2nd Prize

  3. Followed by Ashutosh More of Kohinoor College received 3rd

On the whole the event was a grand success.
