IMG_8862D.Y.Patil University School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies chose to observe World Tourism Day by organising an International Seminar on Sustainable Tourism in the college premises on 26 September 2018. The seminar was organised in collaboration with Govardhan Eco Village, ISKCON. The college takes pride in associating with Govardhan Eco Village, which was recently awarded by the WTO for its outstanding contribution in the realm of Sustainable Tourism. The seminar was graced by the presence of eminent dignitaries from Tourism industry. Shri Gauranga Das,  Director, Govardhan Eco Village & Chairman Bhakti Vedanta Vidyapitha Research Centre presided over the seminar as the chief guest. The college also hosted Ms.Neela Lad-Regional Director, Ministry of Tourism; Mr.Chandrashekhar Jaiswal -General Manager, MTDC; Ms.Elsie Gabriel-Founder Young Environmentalists Program Trust, Ms.Tanya Satish – CEO,Creed Entertainment & Mr.Ranjit Dani – Director,Bougmello Beach Resort,Goa with utmost pride. The presence of such stalwarts and their views on Eco-Tourism enlightened the entire audience.


The entire seminar focused on the relationship between Tourism and Environment Conservation. Last year around 1.235 million travelers crossed international borders in one single year. By 2030, this 1.2 billion will become 1.8 billion. The seminar questioned, how we can enable this powerful global trans formative force, these 1.8 billion opportunities, to contribute to make this world a better place and to advance sustainable development in all its three pillars.


Mr.Sumanta spoke about Atithi Devo Bhava & how it is intrinsic to our Indian Values & Culture which is the ethos of our Tourism. Shri. Gauranga Das spoke about Eco Tourism as a Catalyst for Rural development & how this can be practically achieved as they have done it at Govardhan Eco Village. Ms.Neela Lad spoke about the Initiative taken by the Ministry of Tourism Govt of India regarding Responsible Tourism.Mr.Chandrashekhar Jaiswal spoke about following the new Tourism Policy of 7S Swaagat (welcome),Soochanaa (information), Suvidhaa (facilitation),Surakshaa (security), Sahyog (cooperation), Sanrachnaa (infrastructure) and Safaai (cleanliness) to give a boost to Tourism Sector in India.Ms.Elsie Gabriel spoke on Climate Change & Sustainable Tourism.Ms.Tanya Satish spoke about involving the Youth of Today by engaging them in sustainable activities. Mr. Rajan Dani spoke about Digitalisation in Tourism & how India can boost its Sustainable Tourism by the right use of Technology.
