A PhD is a globally recognized postgraduate academic degree awarded by universities and higher education institutions to a candidate who has submitted a thesis or dissertation, based on extensive and original research in their chosen field. Take another look at that last sentence, because it might possibly be the only thing that can be said about a PhD that remains true regardless of country, institution and academic field. Beyond this, the specificities of PhD degrees vary depending on where you are and what subject you’re studying.In general, however, the PhD is the highest level of degree a student can achieve.

DYPU SHTS launched Ph.D program in Hospitality & Tourism Management on 2nd Feb 2017 under the leadership of the Director Vandana Mishra Chaturvedi. The first candidate to enrol for the Phd program was the Celebrity Chef VikasKhanna, “Honoured to be a Doctorate Student for Indian Cuisine and soon to be called Dr.VikasKhanna.”

“The Phd Programme at DYPU SHTS  is a unique doctoral programme in Hospitality & TourismManagement. It is designed to provide both breadth and depth of knowledge to doctoral participants in Hospitality & Tourism management. The programme has two-fold objective of enabling the participants to master the relevant methodological tools of hospitality & tourism management research on one hand, and the advancement of the current body of  knowledge on the other” as explained by the President Dr.Vijay D Patil. The  programoffers prospects of a career within academia or in (research) positions outside the academia world. Programme’s rigorous curriculum provides ample training for an academic career and gives participants the opportunity to make an indelible mark on the research activity in their respective field. The programme offers specialization in various areas of Hospitality & Tourism Management.

Our First Lady Patron Mrs.Shivani V Patil added that “ Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. Young talents and those having a flair for cuisine, especially Indian cuisine, Chef Khanna will be an inspiration for them.” Chef VikasKhanna showed his enthusiasm and spirit for joining the Phd program at D Y Patil University’s School of Hospitality & Tourism Studies. His words were so inspiring that  the students as well as  professors and other esteemed guests were motivated to look life through  a different perspective. He narrated his whole journey and confessed his hardships through which he has come across. He said, “ Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” “Aim for success is not perfection. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose your ability to learn new things and move forward with your life” Chef Khanna added.
