Importance of Management & Organisational Behaviour in Tourism Sector

DY Patil Deemed to be University, School of Hospitality &Tourism Studies organized an exclusive webinar on Importance of Management & Organizational Behavior in Tourism Sector on 17th October 2020. This webinar was attended by MSc Tourism (Sem I) students of B. Sc Hospitality. The webinar was conducted by highly placed hospitality professional Mr Anirudh Kandpal, Senior Vice President – Sales and Development, The Postcards Hotels.

Mr Anirudh Kandpal, a luxury hospitality sales professional of more than twenty years with brands such as The Oberoi Hotels & Resorts and Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces. He is was the honorary guest of the workshop. He started with his brief introduction of him and gave a small synopsis of his career. To understand the concept of management he introduced his company The Postcard Hotels. How few hospitality professionals came together with the concept of luxury accommodation The Postcards where the guests are willing, we paying 20-30% more than Taj and Oberoi tariff. The journey of managing concept and resources clearly understood the students the various functions of management. The students also understood the roles and skills required to manage the hospitality sectors.

The guest another topic for the course was individual behaviour. First he explained what is individual behaviour and its factors – ability, learning, personality and values. How does these factors affect the organizational behaviour of the organization. While explaining all these topics, the guest shared his professional experiences and sometimes quoted the other hotels situations

The guest sharing his vast experience in sales, marketing and development as examples were main highlights of the course. Theoretically, it is not easy to grasp the various theories and definitions. With examples, the learning becomes more effective.

The guest concluded the session with last topic – Challenges and opportunities of organisation behaviour in Tourism Sector. He imparted the knowledge about the challenges and opportunities of organizational behaviour. It not only improves the productivity, people’s skills, quality and effectively manages the workforce diversity and empowering people.

The webinar was organized by Asst. Prof. Rekha Ramu from the Housekeeping Department of the college  took up the initiative of bridging the gap between the industry and the academia by bringing stalwarts of the profession into the college. The honorary speaker for the event was Mr Anirudh Kandpal, Senior Vice President – Sales and Development, The Postcards Hotels, shared his vast industry experience and subject knowledge. Each and every participant thoroughly enjoyed the session, asked a lot of questions to the guest and was satisfied by the answers they received in return. The participants benefitted immensely from witnessing such a knowledge gaining interaction and learnt a lot about management and organizational behaviour.
