World Prematurity Day is celebrated worldwide on 17th November, each year to spread awareness about baby’s premature birth conditions. Each year, approximately 15 million babies are born prematurely i.e one out of ten babies is born prematurely. Out of that 3.5 million baby born in India suffer from prematurity. Prematurity is the leading cause of death in less than five mortality. This year’s celebration theme – “Born too soon: providing the right care, at the right time, at the right place” was greatly appreciated by the audience.

Many premature babies can grow up to the completely healthy individuals with the same even becoming notable public figures such as Winston Churchill & Elbert Einstein Premie, tiny tots can ” survive & thrive ” well.
The event was commemorated with great vigor and enthusiasm at D Y Patil Healthcare on 27th November 2019. The goal behind the event was to spread awareness about preterm care is taken for babies who are born prematurely in the world. The event was graced by Hon. Dr. Vijay Patil (President- D Y Patil Healthcare) & Shivani Patil (Managing trustee- D Y Patil Healthcare) who later felicitated the parents and kids who grew healthy after their birth under the care and love from the NICU department. A few parents came forward and shared their kid’s transformational journey of health. The event was filled with smiles of many healthy and nutritious babies and their parents with various activities like Speech given by all the doctors & parents who came forward with Questionnaires about their preterm babies.
Dr. Shital Kolhe, NICU in charge at D Y Patil Healthcare, organizer of the Program added that it’s a day to shine a light on the risks and hardships created by premature birth & spreading compassion for families who have experienced Premature birth, cost-effective proven solutions. It’s a key moment to show compassion and support for families who are experiencing anxiety of premature birth by observing World prematurity day. This program was attended by HOD Pediatric – Rajesh Rai, Senior Obstetrician & Pediatric Ophthalmologists.
