The department of Pulmonary medicine conducted the world TB day CME 2016 on 26th March 2016. 190 delegates from across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai attended the conference.
Dr Vasant Mane( CTO Navi Mumbai) and Dr Jayalakshmi T K (Professor and HOD, pulmonary medicine) spoke during the inaugural function and highlighted the importance of DOTS strategy, notification of Tuberculosis and rising problem of drug resistant TB.
Expert faculty including Dr Prahlad Prabhudesai (Lilavati hospital), Dr Rajiv Rao, Dr Jyoti Salve (WHO consultant) enlightened the audience with latest updates regarding diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. A multidisciplinary team of senior panelists including faculty from department of dermatology, gynaecology, paediatrics and psychiatry discussed extrapulmonary manifestations, diagnostic challenges and impact of chronic illness on the mental health of patients.
The talks also included briefing on side effects of drugs and impact of co existing diabetes.
To highlight the social impact of tuberculosis the resident doctors from the department of pulmonary medicine enacted a play which was highly appreciated by the audience.
A session on challenging clinical scenarios and approach to management of these problems was conducted.
This was followed by a quiz on tuberculosis and the winning participants were awarded 1st and 2nd prizes along with certificates and cash rewards.
The CME was accredited by Maharashtra medical council with 2 credit points.
The CME was successfully completed and a positive feedback was received from the delegates.
