Surgical Camp – Providing Care to the Less Privileged
“ A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle ”
Each year this camp is arranged to provide surgical care to the economically poor and the less privileged section of our society. The camp is organised in Thane and Palghar district. We provide them with a team of surgical experts, staff nurses, Student volunteers with necessary equipment.
Since 2017 total 9 camps were arranged at various places like Dahanu, Jawhar, Kasa, Manor and Palghar. Around 1000 patients suffering from various ailments were operated in these camps. Many patients who required care at the institutional level were referred to DY Patil Hospital for further management.
Dr. Kailash Jawade, the head of the department AHS is incharge of the operating team. Dr. Dipesh Goel, Dr. Nandita Saxena, Dr. Shishir Shetty, Dr. Pooja Multani and Dr. Shantanu Chandrashekhar have also been a part of this camp. Students of BSc Physician Assistant Program and Anesthesia Technology Program get an opportunity to assist eminent surgeons and enhance their skills. Students from other programs participate as DOST Club members to create awareness about organ donation during camps and also learn the managerial skills required to conduct such camps.
