Visit of Dr. Michel Glynn – 6th November 2017
D Y Patil University School of Medicine organized a guest lecture by Dr. Michel Glynn on 6th November 2017for the students. Dr. Glynn(MA, MD, FRCP, FHEA) is a consultant physician,gastroenterologist&hepatologistat the Royal London Hospital since 1988. He is anhonorary senior lecturer at BartsHospital & The London School of Medicine & Dentistry. He is regional advisor for the Royal College of Physician of London.From 2008 to 2013, he was Director of North East Thames Foundation School and responsible for the training of more than 700 doctors in their first two years after qualifying. He has been co-editor of Hutchison’s Clinical Methods, one of the oldest & most fundamental of medical text book since it’s 22nd edition.
All the students were very excited & enthused & were waiting for the lecture in great anticipation.And Dr. Michel Glynn did not disappoint! The topic of his lecture was “Basic principles of history taking according to Hutchison”. Professor Dr. Glynn took the students and faculty on a guided tour of history taking stressing on its importancesaying that history taking contributes to 80% of diagnosis.
The students were enthralled by the lecture and realized the importance of proper methods, body language and communication skillswhen interacting with the patient. After the lecture, students posed and capturedphotos with Dr. Glynn. Following this, there was a book signing event where Sir personally autographed students copies of his books. Dr. Glynn was then taken on a tour of the campus & shown the central library, simulation laboratory and stadium. Dr. Glynn was delighted with thefeedback and enthusiasm shown by our students and was impressed by the infrastructure that was available for the students and staff at the D Y Patil University School of Medicine. He expressed utmost satisfaction with his visit and had a brief interaction with our Honorable Chancellor Dr. Vijay D. Patil and our Vice Chancellor Dr. Shirish Patil.
At the end of the day students and staff went back on a high having just heard a wonderful lecture from one of the foremost authors in medicine. Similarly, Dr. Glynn was very happy to be here and promised to make another visit to our campus on his next visit to India.
