The Use of Simulation in Nursing Education:
Students of DYPSON immersed into a realistic clinical environment by Simulation experiences.
Simulated experiences provided the student with the opportunity to be involved in patient care experiences they may otherwise not experience in actual clinical settings.
These patient situations were low frequency, high impact events (e.g. cardiac arrest) they may otherwise not experience. A simulated experience allowed students to critically analyze their own actions. Simulation promoted active learning and participation, to enhance students critical thinking skills.
Students incorporated critical thinking and decision making skills using a process (e.g., nursing process) involving assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation or intervention and evaluation.
The initial skills related to nursing practice are developed in simulation lab.
