Social Wing RAIT
With an intent to work towards societal betterment and to help the students maintain their socially traditional roots, Social Wing RAIT was founded in the year 2013. Throughout the academic year, the committee conducts various activities like Tree Plantation Drive, Cleanliness Drive, Wall Painting, Street Plays, Blood Donation Drive and so on. Major festivals like Diwali and Holi are celebrated by the committee members at orphanages and old-age homes to spread smiles, bring warmth and joy into the lives of the people living there. SoW also conducts an Orphanage Teaching Program wherein RAITians visit the orphanage every week to teach the children and monitor their academic performance. The committee members regularly conduct many fun filled activities at the orphanage, so as to inculcate values like teamwork, discipline and perseverance in the orphanage’s children. SoW also has its own annual magazine called ‘URJA’, which provides an exclusive platform for all RAITians to express their views on various social issues.
The Flood Relief Donation Drive was one of the major initiatives undertaken by SoW in 2019. As various regions of Sangli observed incessant rainfall and flooding, Social Wing RAIT provided Flood Relief Kits and helped over 80 families in those regions.
Social Wing represented RAIT in ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’, an initiative undertaken by IIT Delhi and launched by MHRD. Through UBA, students get an opportunity to implement their technical knowledge in developing innovative and viable solutions for rural development. Another major feat of the committee in the year 2019 included the establishment of RAIT’s first-ever NSS unit. NSS activities provide a platform for the students to upgrade their existing knowledge and skills and use them in a more relevant manner by bringing a change in the society. Social Wing also organizes Udaan – one of Navi Mumbai’s leading marathons and a notable fundraiser event. It has raised over 4 Lacs and has sponsored the education of about 59 underprivileged children collectively in its past 4 editions. However, in 2020, the 5th edition of Udaan set a new benchmark as it observed a foot-fall of over 3000 runners.
Ever since its inception, Social Wing has become a significant part of RAIT and has observed increasing participation of students every passing year.
