NATIONAL WEBINAR: Dravyaguna Samvitti

The literal meaning of Samvitti means to know. Dravyaguna Vigyan Samvitti encompasses all the knowledge related to the subject comprising of Naam Vigyan (Basonym & Synonyms), Gunakarma Vigyan (Actions of Medicinal Plants), Prayoga Vigyan(Therapeutic Utility of Herbal Drugs). In Prayoga Vigyan, the most important aspect of treatment modality which is also included in Chikitsa chatuspada (four pillars of treatment)is the ‘Dravya’ (Medicinal Plants). Over the period of time, it has been seen that there is extreme exploitation of medicinal plants which has to lead to certain specDRAVYA NATIONAL WEBINAR 14.09 (2)ies to fall under endangered and also vulnerable categories as per IUCN guidelines. Hence, in view of the conservation of plant species, cultivation forms its basis. Keeping this view in mind, a National Level Webinar was organized by the Department of Dravyaguna Vigyan, School of Ayurveda, DY Patil Deemed to be University, on the topic of “Need of Cultivation of Medicinal Plants and the recent trend in Cultivation Practices and Substitute & Adulterants of some Important Medicinal Plants” on 14.09.2020 at 10:30 am onward. The esteemed speaker invited for this webinar was Dr. Arvind Kadus, Proprietor Agasti.

Pharmacy, Pune, and Field Expert in the cultivation of Medicinal Plants also pioneers in the cultivation of Anantmool in Maharashtra State. The Webinar was conducted via the online webinar tool of Zoom. The webinar format was One Speaker format, duration of the lecture being 1.5 hours followed by Question & Answer Session. The technical aspects of the webinar tool were taken care of by Dr. Pratik Patil, Assistant Professor from the Department of Swasthavritta & Yoga. The compering of the event was done by Dr. Sayali Shintre. The event started with a formal inauguration by offering prayers to Lord Shri. Dhanvantari, which was followed by an address by the Dean Sir Dr.Mahesh Kumar Harit. The guest speaker was introduced by Dr. Shraddha Nayak. The Program was scheduled in two sessions. The first session was on ‘Substitute & Adulterants of some Important Medicinal Plants’. He dealt with the subject with the pictorial presentation of the adulterants and substitute used in current market practices. He dealt with information on substitutes and adulterants of plants like Nagkeshar, Dashmoola, Guduchi, Sariva, Kustha, Vatsnanabha, Sarpagandha, Vidanga, Manjistha, etc.

In the second session, Dr. Kadus mainly dealt with information, conservation of medicinal plants, and the necessity of cultivation of medicinal plants and their nursery techniques. presented importance on information on the cultivation of Ashwagandha, Sariva, Patola, Dashmoola, Sarpagandha, etc. The Session was concluded with a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Charusheela Giri, HOD & Professor, Department of Dravyaguna Vigyan. The session was summed up with the Question & Answer session.

During the online session noting the questions, attending joining of the meeting by participants, answering technical queries during the session were managed conduction of the webinar on what’s app and rest of the coordination by Dr. Pradnya Chaugule and Dr. Meghnandini Khandare. Over 297 delegates including undergraduate students, Postgraduate students, faculty, Practitioners, herbalists attended the National webinar from different corners of India.
