About the Chief Mentor

Dr Pradeep Rao was brought up in Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. He graduated from the Grant Medical College and completed his General Surgery training from the Lokamanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital, Sion, Mumbai in 1994. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1995. After this in 1996, he joined the Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital, Nadiad for Urology residency under the guidance of Dr Mahesh Desai and Dr S D Bapat and obtained the board certification in Genitourinary Surgery in 2000. During this period, he won the Dr R Seetharaman Essay prize from the Urological Society of India and the prestigious Dr G M Phadke traveling fellowship awarded by the USI.

He was a Visiting Fellow in Laparoscopic Urology with Dr Inderbir Gill in 2000 at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. On returning from Cleveland, he was one of the earliest urologists to start doing laparoscopy in India.

 

Since then, he has been specializing in Endourology and Laparoscopic Urology with a primary interest in Stone disease and Laparoscopic Uro-oncology. He is attached to Mamata Hospital, Dombivli; Jupiter Hospital, Thane and is the Head of the Department of Urology at the Global Hospital in Mumbai.

 

He did the initial clinical trial for the LMA Stonebreaker device (published in BJU in 2006). In May 2007, he did the first ever Single Port Nephrectomy (among other Single port cases) using the R-Port and is credited with being a pioneer of this technology. These cases were initially presented at the World Congress in Cancun, Mexico and published in Urology (Gold Journal). He has been an integral part of helping develop the specialty of single port urological surgery. He was also involved with the initial trials of the BackStop device (published in J Urology)

 

He is a member of the LESSCAR working group formed to direct the future of Single Port surgery and has been invited to demonstrate live surgery and lecture on Single port surgery in Japan, South Korea, Germany, Venezuela, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong Vietnam, Colombia and Singapore.

 

He has more than 20 publications in peer reviewed journals. He has been a Guest editor of the Indian Journal of Urology. He has been on the editorial board of the Journal of Endourology and has authored chapters in various books including the latest edition of Smith’s Textbook of Endourology. Dr Pradeep Rao is the best urologist in Mumbai,India ensure the best treatment for all urological conditions.

Program highlights

The clinical program is designed to provide the fellow with a practical knowledge of the most up-to-date methods of diagnosing and treating all types and stages of urologic diseases.
Hands on training and over-the-shoulder supervision by Chief mentor while the candidate performs individual surgeries.
Trainees will have the access to Laproscopic Simulation Training for various urology procedures at Asia’s best Simulation Laboratory at D Y Patil University as part of their curriculum.
Trainees will be exposed to a broad spectrum of endourologic and minimally invasive surgical procedures including; percutaneous nephrostolithotomy, ureteroscopy, extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy, laparoscopic/robotic-assisted kidney, prostate, & bladder surgery, and thermal ablation.
For laparoscopy/robotics the fellow will learn a variety of robotic and laparoscopic techniques including both conventional laparoscopic and robot-assisted laparoscopic techniques for renal surgery that include pyeloplasty, partial nephrectomy, and nephrectomy.
Mandatory to publish a minimum of four original manuscripts in peer reviewed journals under the guidance of mentor for being awarded the fellowship.
Certification

All the fellows will receive certificate from D Y Patil University.
